Collage for Beginners Workshop
What we’re making: Collage (but make it strange)
Cut things up. Stick them to other things. Just because. No experience required. No talent necessary. This is collage, the Strange Bird way — a little weird, a little wild, and surprisingly satisfying.
The invitation
If your brain’s been loud lately… come cut up a magazine about it. If you’ve been staring at your phone too much… come make something with your hands. If you think you’re “not creative”… excellent. You’re exactly where you're meant to be.
We’ll show you a few ways to start, then you’re free to follow whatever catches your eye — a colour, a word, a face, a feeling. No rules. No right way. Just a table full of possibilities.
The Vibe
Think: piles of magazines, strange images, poetry books, bold colours, tiny scissors, sticky fingers - (in a non-gross way). Music playing. Snacks within reach. A tea or a wine in hand.
What you’ll do
👉🏾 Learn a few simple ways to start (so you’re not staring at a blank page like 👁️👄👁️)
👉🏿 Cut, tear, layer, rearrange, start again
👉🏻 Follow your instincts instead of overthinking it
👉🏽 Create something weird, wonderful, or unexpectedly meaningful
👉🏾 Leave with a framed piece of art ready to go "straight to the pool room."
You might make art. You might make nonsense. You might accidentally make something that hits a nerve (in the best way).
What’s included
🌈 All materials (magazines, craft knives, cutting mats, paper, glue, scissors, a frame to take home and a piece of art for your wall)
🌈 Gentle guidance (there if you want it, invisible if you don’t)
🌈 A cosy, creative space
🌈 Snacks and a drink
🌈 Your finished (or gloriously unfinished) piece to take home
The real reason to come
Because your brain gets quieter when your hands get busy. Because there’s something magic about making something out of nothing.
Come solo or bring a friend. Either way, you’ll leave feeling lighter than when you came in... Pinkie promise.
Spaces are limited so save your seat now!
