It’s low-pressure, quietly social, and often the best part of your week.

Craft Club

Weekly age-based creative sessions for littles, primary and high schoolers to explore and make across the term.

Craft Club is all about building confidence, creativity, and a sense of belonging over time. Across the term, kids experiment with different materials and ideas, develop their own style, and learn that there’s no “right way” to make art — just their way. It’s part art class, part creative playground, part community.

What to Expect

Strange Bird Studio is a place to exhale a little. No pressure, no perfection, no “being good at art” required.

Whether you’re five or fifty-five, walking in solo or with a mate, you’ll be met with a relaxed, welcoming space where creativity is about feeling something — not proving anything.

Our sessions are designed to be:

You’ll make something with your hands, your way

Playful, a bit silly when it wants to be, and never too serious

So… what actually happens in a session?

Each class is a little different, but most follow a loose, welcoming rhythm:

You’ll arrive, get settled, and be introduced to the activity (with examples and guidance to spark ideas). From there, you’ll be supported to explore it in your own way — with as much or as little structure as you like.

There’s always help if you want it.
And always space if you don’t.

You’ll leave with something you’ve made — whether that’s a zine, a collage, a tiny sculpture, a drawing, or a slightly wonky but deeply lovable creation that somehow means more than you expected.

Handy things to know

Absolutely not. In fact… it helps if you’re not.
This isn’t about being impressive.
It’s about being expressive.
If you can cut, stick, scribble, or have a vague interest and willingness to give something a go — you’re already overqualified.
We run sessions for:
- Kids (including after-school craft clubs)
- Teens
- Adults
- Mixed-age workshops
Each session clearly states the recommended age range when you book, so you’ll know exactly what’s what.
All sessions are guided by Nicola (that’s me) — I'm your host at Strange Bird Studio — along with occasional local guest artists and facilitators.

A bit of both.
We’ll always give you a starting point — a prompt, technique, or idea — so you’re never staring at a blank page wondering what on earth to do.
From there, you’re free to follow your curiosity, take it somewhere unexpected, or keep it simple.
You betcha — all materials are included.
We also use lots of recycled, donated, and upcycled materials, which means things can get a little eclectic (in the best way). Just bring yourself.
Some sessions include light snacks or drinks, and some don’t — it depends on the event. If you're hosting a private session we can also organise catering with you based on the kind of noms you're looking for.
In summary... if it’s part of the offering, it’ll be clearly listed in the session details.
Otherwise, feel free to bring what you need to feel comfy.
Something handmade, a little piece of joy, and (hopefully) a quieter brain.
Sometimes it’s a gift for someone else.
Sometimes it’s just for you.
Both are equally important.
